On Record: Science Policy & Diplomacy Briefing Series

We bring together two great minds as Professors Meghan Davis, PhD, MPH, DVM, and Andy Pekosz, PhD, sit down with Isabel, Vivian, and Nick to discuss the ongoing outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), H5N1, and how this disease threatens human and animal health. They cover how HPAI spreads, what preventative measures can be implemented, and how scientists and policymakers can work together to mitigate the impacts of HPAI. They also discuss strategies to address emerging pathogens in the future, and the importance of preventing outbreaks of disease not only in humans, but also in animals, to build a more sustainable future.

Ona Ambrozaite, President of JHSPDG, sat down with the Ambassador of Switzerland to the United States, Jacques Pitteloud, to learn more about his perspectives on the importance of science diplomacy.

His Excellency was previously the Ambassador of Switzerland to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, and the Seychelles.

Join us for a discussion on how science diplomacy has evolved, and how Switzerland sees itself positioned in the scientific communities of Europe and the world.

JHSPDG's Science Diplomacy Coordinator Isabel Jimenez speaks with Professor Steve Osofsky, the Jay Hyman Professor of Wildlife Health & Health Policy at Cornell University and Director of Cornell's K. Lisa Yang Center for Wildlife Health. Professor Osofsky details his career in conservation, and discusses how up-and-coming applied scientists can enhance their chances of translating their work into real change for good.

Ona chats with Dr. Catharine Young, the Assistant Director of Cancer Moonshot Engagement and Policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Join us as Dr. Young discusses the career path that led to this role and how young science advocates can work with the government to end cancer as we know it.

Hosted at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg Center in the heart of Washington, D.C.

For our inaugural episode of the On Record: Science Policy & Diplomacy Briefing Series, JHSPDG President Ona Ambrozaite sits down with Nick Polk, former Deputy Chief of Staff at DOD and now Senior Advisor to the Federal Chief Information Security Officer at the Office of Budget and Management at the White House.
